Baileys Concerto favourite to stave off competition at Rock at the Races

31st July 2017

Perth Racecourse is gearing up for its next double header, with Rock at the Races and Golf Perthshire Raceday taking place on Tuesday 1 and Wednesday 2 August.

Baileys Concerto, a dual hurdle winner at Perth, bids to open his course account over fences in the feature race at the track on Tuesday evening.

Trained near Penrith by Dianne Sayer, the evergreen eleven-year-old faces seven rivals in the £14,000 Perth Audi Handicap Chase over three miles.

The Cumbrian raider has been second, third and fourth over fences at Perth Racecourse and his trainer said: “He usually runs well at the northerly track, and we also entered him for a race over 2m 4f on the second day.

“He has been a fantastic horse since coming to us and Brian Hughes gets on really well with him. Going back a few years he was running off a much higher mark, but he was younger then too!”

Among the opposition to Baileys Concerto is five-time course scorer Kilbree Kid trained in Gloucestershire by Tom George and ridden by Ciaran Gethings.

Gordon Elliott's three-time course winner Russian Regent is one of five rides on the evening for crack Irish amateur pilot Jamie Codd.

Borders-trained Glenn Na Ndochais is one of eight horses declared for the Perth Lodge Handicap Chase over 2m 4f.

Hawick-based Alistair Whillans has saddled his eleven-year-old to two course and distance wins and he is partnered on this occasion by former champion conditional jockey Craig Nichol.

A total of 54 horses have been declared for the seven-race card which gets underway at 5.50pm.
