Miss Great Britain to crown stylish winners at Perth Racecourse Ladies Day
Perth Racecourse has enlisted the help of Miss Great Britain, Ursula Carlton, to crown its most stylish guests at its annual Totepool Ladies Day (18 May). The glamorous pageant queen will award the Best Dressed Male and Best Hat live on stage, alongside celebrity stylist Gok Wan who will name the Best Dressed Lady.
Ursula (26) from Nairn scooped the prestigious title in 2016, and is looking forward to attending Perth’s Ladies Day for the first time. She said: “Holding the title of Miss Great Britain has been such a fantastic experience, giving me the opportunity to attend some wonderful events across the UK. I’m honoured to attend Perth Racecourses’ Ladies Day to crown the Best Dressed Male and Best Hat, I’ve heard that the style stakes are extremely high at Perth and I can’t wait to see all the glamourous ladies and gents!”
The annual summer Ladies Day takes place on 18 May. The most glamorous event in Perth’s racing line-up, those attending this year will have to up their style stakes as the Best Dressed Lady will be awarded with a £2000 cash prize. Ladies are also urged to dawn their finest fascinators and headpieces for the chance of winning the Best Hat.
Hazel Peplinksi, chief executive at Perth Racecourse said: “Year on year, our Ladies Day continues to attract an enthusiastic crowd who really do dress to impress. Our VIP tickets have completely sold out, and we are looking forward to welcoming our stylish guests to the track.
“Sponsored by St John’s Shopping Centre, our Best Dressed Lady is the biggest best dressed cash prize in Scotland, and we are thrilled that Gok Wan will be doing the honours and crowning this year’s winner. I have a feeling that the competition might be even stiffer than usual!”
Gok will also be bringing his popular Fashion Brunch Club to the racecourse for VIP guests to enjoy. The stylist to the stars will share his insider know-how and industry secrets, as well as showcase the latest Spring/Summer trends in a fabulous fashion show.
There will also be a series of live entertainment throughout the day, with Tay FM’s Stuart Webster hosting the main stage. The Soul Kings will kick start the proceedings with a performance in the morning, with a Take That tribute band closing the show.
Ahead of Ladies Day, Perth’s On-Course Bookmakers Evening on the Wednesday (17 May) is ideal for novice racegoers, students and experienced punters alike. With tickets on sale for just £5, racing rookies can chance their beginners luck and be guided through the competitive card of jump racing by Perth’s resident raceday presenter Jim Delahunt.
The evening meeting also promises a lively party atmosphere, a host of delicious local produce and a selection of artisan ales and craft beers from nearby Perthshire breweries.
Tickets for Perth’s On-Course Bookmakers Evening are priced at just £5. Gates open at 4.30pm and the first race is scheduled for 6.05pm and the last race at 9.05pm.
Ladies Day grandstand tickets are available at £25 and are selling fast. Gates open at 11.30am so those hoping to be in with the chance of winning the Best Dressed Lady are advised to arrive early to avoid disappointment. The first race is scheduled at 2pm and the last race at 5.20pm.
