Follow Charlie Chasing Perth Hat-Trick

Mike Smith is aiming for another Perth strike from Follow Charlie as racing returns to the Scone track for the Auto Services Perth Ltd Raceday.

Monday’s fixture promises another competitive afternoon of National Hunt action, with the first race getting underway at 2.20pm and the finale scheduled for 4.50pm. Racegoers can expect an action-packed card as the Perth season begins to build towards its conclusion later this month.

Follow Charlie will be bidding to continue his impressive relationship with Perth when he lines up in the www.asp.scot Stellantis Commercial Aftersales Handicap Hurdle.

The Galston raider has three wins at Ayr to his name, but he has proved equally effective at Britain’s most northerly racecourse, recording a trio of victories at the Scone track.

He arrives in particularly good form and is chasing a Perth hat-trick after scoring over two miles in July before following up over course and distance last month.

Trainer Mike Smith said: “All bar one of his wins have been at two and a half miles and I thought two miles was short enough for him two runs ago but he proved us wrong.

“He’s clearly in great order so he’ll keep coming back to Perth before the jumping starts again at Ayr later in the autumn.”

Follow Charlie won’t have things all his own way, however, with fellow course-and-distance winners Lets Mingle and Lowlands also bringing proven Perth form into the 2m 4f contest.

There is further local interest in the £15,000 feature race as Wasdell Dundalk bids to rediscover the form that has already seen him record four victories at Perth.

Trained in Cumbria by Lisa Harrison, the experienced campaigner drops in grade for the Auto Services Mercedes Benz Truck Aftersales Handicap Chase following his last appearance at Perth in mid-July.

Having failed to fire when pulled up in Class 3 company on that occasion, he returns refreshed from a break and will be looking to underline once again his liking for the Perth track with a fifth course success.

Among his opposition is the in-form Regal Renaissance, who will create a little piece of history for Newmarket-based dual-purpose trainer Jack Jones by becoming his first runner at Perth.

The mare has already won three times this season, beginning her successful run at Ludlow in May on what proved to be her final start for former trainer Henry Daly.
